Bukhara State Medical Institute (BSMI), named after the esteemed Persian scholar and physician Abu Ali ibn Sino (Avicenna), is a public medical university in Uzbekistan, established in October 1990. Since its inception, the institute has become a centre for excellence in medical education and research in the region. It was officially named after Abu Ali ibn Sino in March 1991, following a resolution by the Presidium of the Bukhara Regional Council of People’s Deputies.
The university has continuously evolved and expanded its academic offerings to meet the changing needs of healthcare and education. In 1991, the Faculty of Medicine was established, followed by the Faculty of Dentistry in 1992. Over the years, BSMI introduced additional faculties and departments, such as the Department of Highly Qualified Nurses (1999), the Department of Medical Pedagogy (2001), the Department of Paediatrics (2016), and the departments for medical prevention and medical biology (2018).

BSMI also prioritizes international collaboration, maintaining partnerships with various medical institutions worldwide. These collaborations aim to foster academic exchange, joint research initiatives, and continuous improvement of the educational process.
The institute is committed to providing quality medical education that meets global standards. This is evident from its recognition by prominent international organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO), the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India, and its listing in the World Directory of Medical Schools.

BSMI's international collaborations provide students with opportunities for global exposure through academic exchanges and research initiatives. These partnerships enhance the quality of education and open avenues for further studies or practice in other countries.
In summary, BSMI offers a unique combination of academic rigor, global recognition, affordability, and cultural richness. For students looking to pursue a medical degree abroad, it represents a promising opportunity to build a successful career in medicine.
